Lessons from Scrabble. Welcome 2009
Tuesday, December 30, 2008 at 11:34AM
Toys and games are a wonderful illustration of life sometimes. Scrabble taught (and continues to teach me) how to find opportunity. To use what was established, build upon that, and hopefully make it better than before. You may not get dealt the best tiles like other people, but if you’re smart about your placements you can make the best of what you’ve been given.
So why am making this comparison between a popular word game and life? To serve as a reminder to myself and anyone who cares to read this that we should always appreciate what we have. In a world that is growing and connecting more and more of us each day, we will be exposed to people who may have it “better” than us, or who may have been given a better chance. Be happy for them, but be happy for everything you have as well even if it isn’t as much. The fact that you’re reading this post on a computer most likely already makes you luckier than 80% of the world.
In 2009, take the letters you’ve been given and make the most of them.
