Your Daily Microblogging Talkshow

Today as I watched my stream on Twitter I noticed something that I had never stopped to think about before. There are people who know each other very well in "real-life," in some cases who even work together, who also have thousands of followers, who are talking to each other publicly.

This struck me as very similar to something you would see on one of various late-night talk shows. Two people having a dialogue, and you've got a massive audience watching it happen live. I'm sure there are some that might be annoyed by such an exchange, but in my case, I found myself drawn into it more. Twitter is sometimes seen as a broadcast mechanism. Something that lets us send our interests or projects out to the masses. That's why these small exchanges between individuals might be fascinating to some. I never quite understood why so many people followed celebrities on Twitter, but now I get it. They want a peek into the lives of people that they don't normally see.

Even on talk shows, the interviews are generally scripted and certain "plugs" are mandatory. I think that we're not at the point where celebrities understand the medium of Twitter enough to have a filter. They're corresponding with other big names and revealing their true (uncoached, not publicist-dusted-off, canned) opinions and we're intrigued by it.

Plus, admit it, when you see a celebrity interacting with a non-celebrity figure on Twitter, it kinda gives you the confidence to step up and do the same. Especially when they are debating/arguing about a certain topic? If only there are also ratings on the internet... :D
